I am a millennial in SF, so you can pretty much find me working in a coffee shop, sipping my cold brew from a mason jar and nibbling on an overpriced piece of avocado toast. My coworker, however, introduced her recipe and it’s completely ruined all other avocado toasts for me. Her secret (and I hope she doesn’t mind my sharing) is Trader Joe’s Everything But The Bagel Seasoning! Seriously, avocado toast just doesn’t taste right without it now! The best part is that it only costs $1.99 – now that’s ballin’ on a budget!
1 slice of bread (I use sourdough from LaBou, but wholewheat is good too!)
Everything But The Bagel Seasoning
I think what frustrates avocado-toast haters is how something so simple can be priced at over $7. Unfortunately, I do have to admit that the preparation is pretty darn self-explanatory:
- Toast the bread to perfection
- Cut avocado in half
- Slice or mash the creamy yumminess onto the toast
- Sprinkle Everything But The Bagel Seasoning on top
optional: If you’re feeling bougie, you can even drizzle some olive oil and top your toast with some arugula and cherry tomatoes. Hell, let’s be extra and throw an egg and some roasted pine nuts on top while we’re at it. That’ll probably put you at around $14 if you order from a brunch spot in the city.
