January Beauty Faves

Wow, the month just FLEW by. Remember how in school we had to write our name and the date on the upper right-hand corner of our papers? I feel like I would still be writing “2017 2018.” Anyway, before I digress more, here are the beauty products I’ve been loving this month:

Defy & Inspire Nail Polish: Have you heard anyone talk about this brand before? It so underrated, but you’ll 100% love it. I’m kind of a compulsive picker, so nail polish never sees the end of day on my hands. If I spot even the slightest chip, I’ll pick and scratch until I demolish the rest of my manicure. Despite my habit, this nail polish managed to last an entire week without any signs of chipping – and I didn’t even need a top coat!

First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream: Seriously a life-saver this winter. I even raved about this moisturizer in a sample review for Popsugar. (Ahhhh  applied to be a part-time beauty writer for them – please send over some good vibes) To sum up that review, FAB Ultra Repair Cream is formulated with colloidal oatmeal to soothe angry, irritated skin like mine. I generously apply this all over my face and my body. It’s so intensely moisturizing that I was hesitant to use it on my face at first, but the whipped texture is lightweight and not the slightest bit greasy. Even my boyfriend has noticed a difference! He loves holding my hands now because they’re so soft. While I’ve only used the fragrance free cream, I hear their other four scents smell absolutely divine!

bareMinerals Blemish Remedy Foundation: Okay, I discovered this foundation years ago, but it seemed to be the only foundation my skin could tolerate this month. Even my tried-and-true L’oreal True Match and Bobbi Brown foundations left my face uncomfortably taut and dry. I don’t know why my skin’s so overly sensitive this month, but thank goodness I have this powder to conceal the irritation without making it worse. I buff this all over my face until I reach a medium coverage. Their original foundation is actually far more build-able (which seems counterintuitive for a foundation made to cover blemishes), but this contains Aspen bark and tea tree oil to keep breakouts at bay.

The Blemish Ready line only offers 12 shades, which pales in comparison to the 30 offered in their original line. I use the shade Clearly Nude 07, which is slightly too orange for my skin tone. I make it work though. Unlike many other powder foundations, this doesn’t cling onto dry patches if I moisturize beforehand. Together with the FAB Ultra Repair Cream, this duo has really been a breath of fresh air for my distressed skin.

Honey Face Wash: Again, it was difficult testing new beauty products this month due to my skin’s abnormally sensitive state. I did, however, try replacing my face wash with honey in an attempt to be more eco-friendly, and I’m happy to share that I’m still washing my face with honey every morning. It’s incredibly nourishing and soothing.

Since I kept my beauty routine gentle and simple, I didn’t get to try too many new beauty products this month. Why don’t you share some of your January staples in the comments below?

P.S. Thanks W for the plant in the picture and extra thanks to mom & dad for my new iPhone so that I can finally text and take pictures again ❤️
